Conference on Human Rights and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (April 21-22, 2010)

21-22 April: Conference on Human Rights and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities

The 3Rs CURA (Community University Research Alliance) is planning a Conference to explore the challenges that families, agencies, and advocates face in increasing the awareness of the violations and in setting forth a proactive and preventative path to ensure that this millennium ends the history of abuse. The Rights Agenda will be geared at influencing rights change at many different levels:

·  First, it will set a path to encourage policy makers to advance the rights in policy implantation guidelines in a variety of arenas (health, justice, education).

·  Second, it will explore ways that health practitioners can promote the health rights of persons with disabilities from education to advocacy.

·  Third, it will bring together justice officials to develop protocols to advance accommodations in the justice system.

·  Fourth, it will set standards by which educators can teach and enhance the rights of children, youth and adults within an inclusive system of support.

·  Fifth, it will create an opportunity for researchers to explore new ways to teach people with disabilities about their rights and to examine ways that society can enhance the implementation of rights.

The Conference will attract Educators, Health Professionals, Justice Officials, Policy Analysts, Researchers, Advocates, and Self-Advocates in a common purpose: to expand the awareness of rights education, and implementation for Persons with Intellectual Disabilitie
