9 December 2019

Nearly 90,000 wheelchairs and car safety seats have been donated to disabled children in China during the past 10 years through a charity project, the China Foundation for Disabled Persons said Saturday.

Over 95 percent of the donated items are wheelchairs and the remainder car safety seats, according to the foundation, which launched the project in 2009 in association with a company.

The donations made by the company, worth around 440 million yuan (about 62.2 million U.S. dollars), have benefited recipient children who suffer from cerebral palsy, said the foundation.

Wang Naikun, chairperson of the foundation, said in addition to making the donations, the project also provides assistance for deaf children to learn to speak and blind children to learn to read.
