Para athletics in numbers: Aled Davies

27 April 2018

In the first of our new series’ Para Athletics in Numbers’ we take a look at the stats behind world and Paralympic champion Aled Davies.

The popular Welshman won shot put and discus F42 gold at last year’s World Championships to further cement his place at the top of his class. Here are the numbers…

17.52 – The distance, in metres, of his current shot put F42 world record – a mark he set at the London 2017 World Championships.

14 – Davies was 14-years-old when he started throwing, having been a keen and talented swimmer throughout childhood.

5 – The average number of hours Davies spends training each day – in the gym or out in the field.

300 – That’s the weight (in kilograms) that the Welshman can deadlift. It’s more than double his own body weight – he weighs in at 120kg.

42 – His lucky number! It’s also the number of the class Davies competes in – F42 – and if you reverse it, you get his birthday – he was born on the 24th of May 1991.

3 – Davies wears a leg brace to compete; he has three on the go but has used 11 in his career to date.

12 – the number of shot puts he owns, across different weights. He always takes two to competitions!

15 – The total number of Paralympic, World, European and Commonwealth medals he has won – of which 12 are gold. Pretty impressive!
