Report on the National Conference on Access to Justice and Legal Capacity: Strategies for Implementing the CRPD, held in Costa Rica
RI is pleased to announce that it has just completed its national conference, on Access to Justice and Legal Capacity: Strategies for Implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, held in San Jose, Costa Rica from 18-20 May 2010. The three-day activity dedicated the first day to bringing together persons with disabilities and DPO leaders in order to present a forum for networking, capacity building, strategic planning, and creating cohesion within the movement for implementing the CRPD in Costa Rica. At the opening of the event RI Secretary General Venus Ilagan spoke of the groundbreaking nature of the CRPD, emphasizing the fact that persons with disabilities now have a tool by which to champion the protection of their rights.

RI is excited to announce that the GAC Phase II National Seminar in Mexico City, Mexico has just taken place on the 10th and 11th of June. RI would like to give special thanks and recognition to the Open Society Institute whose support and dedication have made this Seminar possible. RI would also like to thank our participants, speakers and lawyers, whose time and effort made this National Seminar a significant event in Mexico’s path to implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
