UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

RI and its members have been actively engaged in the negotiations towards a UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - participating in the International Disability Caucus (IDC) and monitoring and contributing to the discussions on specific articles.

RI has also organized or participated in several side events during the Ad Hoc Committee (AHC) meetings, including five panel discussions at the 7th session of the AHC, held at UN headquarters from January 16-February 3, 2006.

Summary Report of RI Side Event on Implementation of the UN Convention, January 31, 2006. Panelists included: Ambassador Don MacKay (New Zealand), Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee; Professor Gerard Quinn (Ireland) of the National University of Ireland, Galway; Anuradha Mohit (India) of the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs); and Professor Michael Stein (USA) of Harvard University.
