RI Secretary General Venus Ilagan attended the 65th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference at United Nations Headquarters in New York, which took place 27-29 August. A record 4000 people representing 902 CSOs and 117 countries attended the conference, and Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations Samantha Power provided the keynote address.

The inclusion of disability perspectives in post-2015 plans was highlighted by various speakers at the event, and many groups urged future plans to leave no one behind. “Persons with disabilities were invisible from the MDGs,” said International Disability Alliance President Maryanne Diamond, who went on to underscore the importance of inclusive SDGs.

The outcome document from the event underscores the importance of including persons with disabilities in post-2015 consultations, and RI will continue to fight to ensure this inclusion permeates all sectors of society in the years to come.
