Participants from seven countries gain powerlifting knowledge

16 August 2018

Some great performances could be seen at the 2018 World Para Powerlifting African Championships, with even a world record being set. But apart from the competition, this event was an opportunity for many technical officials and coaches to learn more about the sport. A total of 11 participants from hosts Algeria, Benin, Ivory Coast, Mali, Sierra Leone, Togo and Tunisia attended an Introduction to Coaching Course. They actively participated in lectures, discussions and activities about athlete recruitment, coaching philosophies and lift sequences. The attendants also had the chance to take part in a training camp led by educator Azzam Al Zubi. “The course participants were enthusiastic and dedicated to deepen their knowledge about Para powerlifting,” said Al Zubi. “This knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication are key for the development of our sport around the world. Not only did the participants improve their skills and expertise through this course, they also had the chance to apply it with their athletes at the competition.” A Level 3 Technical Official Course was also held in Algiers, with participants learning about the application of technical rules and regulations, the various roles of technical officials and different competition processes.   Source: paralympic.org
