Tokyo 2020 organizers release schedule for Paralympics

5 December 2019

The organizers of next year’s Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday revealed a detailed schedule for the Games on Tuesday, with the goal of “full stadiums” for every event.

According to the organizers, the opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the new national stadium on August 25 and September 6 next year, respectively. Both will run from 8pm to 11pm local time, the same as the Olympics.

The first gold medal event will be in cycling on August 26 next year, the day after the opening ceremony.

The ticket prices will start from 500 yen (about 5 U.S. dollars) for groups and families. The organizers aim to make the Games especially accessible to elementary and junior high school students.

“We really want children to watch, because they need courage and passion to grow. Watching athletes with disabilities perform such outstanding feats is great encouragement,” Tokyo 2020 Vice Director General Masaaki Komiya said.

The organizing committee will start accepting applications for ticket purchases on its official website on August 22.
