Norwegian government urges big companies to recruit more disabled jobseekers

5 December 2019

The Norwegian government sent a letter to 100 large companies, requesting that they hire more people with disabilities and gaps in their resumes, news agency NTB reported Wednesday.

Among the companies that received the letter were Norway’s multinational oil and gas company Equinor, The Norwegian Post, Norway’s largest bank DNB, Sweden-based home furnishing company Ikea, government-owned alcoholic beverage retailer Vinmonopolet, Nordic largest consumer electronics retailer Elkjop, Norwegian agricultural cooperative Felleeskjopet, as well as Norwegian cruise, ferry and cargo operator Hurtigruten.

“What we want and hope is that more Norwegian companies will employ more people with disabilities and gaps in the CV. We believe it is a waste of resources that people who can and will work cannot contribute to value creation and must live off national social security,” said Torbjorn Roe Isaksen, Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry.

Together with Anniken Hauglie, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Roe Isaksen said he wants to take advantage of the good times to get more employees into work, where they can help the companies with value creation, NTB reported.
