Brunei is planning to build a complex for persons with disabilities as the government is increasingly giving more attention to the wellbeing and development of the differently-abled community in the country, a senior government official said on Wednesday.
The country’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Haji Aminuddin Ihsan said on Tuesday once completed the complex will provide space and facilities for work, study and conducting recreational activities in a comfortable and appropriate environment for the differently-abled.
The minister revealed the matter in his special message on Tuesday on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is being commemorated every year on 3 December.
The minister also said that the country is currently conducting a survey of persons with different abilities in two phases. The first phase is expected to gather information about the differently-abled employed in the government sector and the private sector, and the second phase will collect information on the involvement of the differently-abled in the community. This effort is intended to further strengthen policies, support services and programs towards the welfare of the differently-abled in Brunei.
