The Care and Rehabilitation Expo China 2023 opened at the Shougang Exhibition and Convention Center in Beijing on May 21, 2023, which was also China’s 33rd national day of assisting persons with disabilities.

The three-day expo, organized by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF), came at a time when the Rehabilitation International (RI), the oldest organization promoting rehabilitation services for people with disabilities and community rehabilitation, hosted a series of events and forums in Beijing in honor of its 100th anniversary.

A RI centennial-themed exhibition was specially set up at the expo to greet the guests from home and abroad who attended the RI centennial events, displayed aids for people with disabilities, and promoted international exchange and cooperation in the field of disabilities.

Zhang Haidi, president of RI and chairperson of CDPF, paid a visit to the expo. When coming to the area of the RI centennial-themed exhibition, she expressed that the expo’s coinciding with the RI centennial and China’s 33rd national day of assisting persons with disabilities, was of great importance for inspiring people in all walks of life to raise awareness for caring for individuals with disabilities.

The expo comprises five exhibiting areas, such as transfer devices, prosthesis and orthosis, rehabilitation training equipment, accessible facilities, and assistive devices for the aged, people with impaired vision, and those who suffer from communication problems.

More than 300 enterprises from 14 countries and regions, such as China, Germany, the US, and Japan, displayed a variety of new products and technologies, including smart assistive devices, smart riding tools, a flexible exoskeleton robot, intelligent bionic hands, smart and dexterous prosthetic legs, a brain-computing interface-based robotic system for hand function rehabilitation, and an immersive 3D intelligent rehabilitation system.

Besides the cutting-edge products and technologies, a batch of available assistive products and technologies were also exhibited, which are designed to make everyday social participation more accessible for people with disabilities or dysfunctions, as well as elderly people who are unable to perform essential self-care.

Zhang also expressed her hope that the efforts for researching and developing assistive devices should be ramped up to lower the cost, improve performance, and provide more humane products and services, helping people with disabilities to lead a better quality life with improved feelings of dignity.
