China reports 544,000 new jobs for workers with disabilities in 2023

A total of 544,000 people with disabilities found employment in China in 2023, according to the China Disabled Persons’ Federation.

Urban areas saw 152,000 people with disabilities employed, while rural areas accounted for 392,000.

More than 9.06 million people with certified disabilities engaged in various forms of employment last year. This included government-supported jobs, self-employment, part-time work and public welfare positions.

Nearly half of these individuals worked in the farming, animal husbandry and agricultural processing sectors.

The federation reported that in 2023, 11,393 individuals with visual impairments received training to become non-medical masseurs, and 9,970 trained as medical masseurs.

Authorities and organizations provided practical skills training to 259,000 people with disabilities facing hardships in rural areas, the federation noted.
