Yesterday, RI Treasurer Susan Parker set sail on the only accessible catamaran for wheelchair users in the world alongside persons with disabilities and their families. The decks of “The Impossible Dream” catamaran are ramped and the fully accessible staterooms below are reachable by an elevator.

The catamaran has its own website and closely collaborates with Shake-A-Leg Foundation, which runs a successful aquatic program for people with disabilities. Ms. Parker spoke extensively with The Impossible Dream’s owner, Deborah Mellen, who is a wheelchair user, as is the Director of Shake-A-Leg, Harry Horgan. Both programs are based near Miami, Florida.
