Abdulla Sultan Alaryani aiming for perfection

The UAE’s double world champion Abdulla Sultan Alaryani is aiming to perfect his craft in the 50m shooting distance ahead of the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, in less than 100 days.

The 37-year-old is fresh off two gold medals – R7 (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1) and R6 (mixed 50m rifle prone SH1) – at May’s World Shooting Para Sport Championships. Since then, instead of resting his rifle, Alaryani has actually stepped up his preparations.

Before the Asian Para Games from 6-13 October, Alaryani will test himself at September’s World Cup in Chateauroux, France, where many familiar faces from the 2018 Worlds are expected to compete.

“[I have been] maintaining the technical level through the upcoming participations in all competitions and intensifying my training,” Alaryani said.

“Our next goals are to participate in the World Cup that will be held in France and also the Asian Championship, with my ultimate goal to achieve the best results.”

Although Alaryani won London 2012 Paralympic gold and three Rio 2016 silvers, he produced his best career performance at the 2018 Worlds, showcasing his mastery in the 50m rifle events.

“I have focused my training in recent competitions on 50 meters – the R6 – R7,” Alaryani said.

“The feeling of winning the first place by getting two gold medals in the competition of 50m assures me that I am on the right track, that I followed through with my focus to specialise in the 50m category and mastering the game.

“My goals in Jakarta are to win first place and have my country well represented.”
